DID YOU KNOW SILK ISN'T VEGAN? BUT BAMBOO IS. - MIE Skincare

DID YOU KNOW SILK ISN'T VEGAN? BUT BAMBOO IS.

IS BAMBOO THE NEW SILK?

The benefits of a silk pillowcase are well documented, and there's no doubt silk is amazingly beneficial to your skin, hair and beyond. However, it has a dark side too as it's neither vegan nor cruelty-free?

This is why we have a new favourite - Bamboo!

Bamboo is a vegan and environmentally friendly alternative to silk, which is why we love it so much at Instant Effects and have even added pillowcases to our collection to complement our skincare products.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SLEEPING ON A BAMBOO FIBRE PILLOWCASE?

Bamboo fibre is very beneficial for your health, as well as your skin. It contains natural elements which are anti-bacterial and hypo-allergenic making it the recommended fabric for people suffering from asthma or other preparatory illnesses. Bamboo fibres naturally repel dust mites too, which are not only undesirable but a very common allergy.

HOW IS SLEEPING ON A BAMBOO PILLOWCASE GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN?

The Bamboo pillowcase is an all-around skin hero in the bedroom. Here are our 3 top reasons why you should be swapping out your pillowcase.

1) DRY SKIN

Bamboo fibre is naturally breathable & moisture-wicking, due to its unique ultra-fine fibre construction, meaning your skin is able to breathe more compared to cotton to other textile pillowcases. The ability to regulate body temperature better reduces water loss, keeping skin healthy and hydrated.

2) IRRITATION

Bamboo pillowcases have smooth surfaces that reduce friction on the skin overnight. Less friction means less inflammation, which is good news for anyone with sensitive skin.

3) SPOTS & ACNE

Bamboo fibre is resistant to mould and bacterial growth which is a big plus for the cleanliness of your skin. Any bacteria or mould on your pillowcase is transferred onto your skin once your face touches your pillow and can develop spots. Because bamboo contains natural elements which are anti-bacterial, bamboo fabrics are healthier, germ-free and odour free. This means that no bacteria or germs living on the pillowcase can be transferred onto your skin.

4) IMPROVE OVERALL COMPLEXION

One of the best benefits of bamboo is that helps you sleep better. by wicking extra moisture away, you stay cool and comfortable all night long. As a result, your sleep isn't interrupted from overheating and you actually get a solid eight hours of sleep. Getting the rest you need directly translates into a healthier, more youthful-looking you. Read our full sleep blog to find out why a good nights sleep is so important.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR HAIR?

Tradition cotton bedding is coarse and rough, so create a lot of friction on your hair. This roughs up the cuticles, causing damage to your hair every time you turn your head in your sleep. Over time, your hair becomes more and more damaged and can look dull and frayed. A bamboo pillowcase reduces the amount of friction on your hair as they are glossy and smooth, allowing your hair to glide over the pillowcase without friction, leaving your hair healthy, strong and frizz-free.

IS BAMBOO A GOOD ETHICAL CHOICE?

As you know, all of Instant Effects products are 100% cruelty free, and much of the collection is Vegan. We also work hard to reduce our environmental impact and incorporate sustainable alternatives wherever possible, by manufacturing in the UK and using recycled & recyclable packaging. This is why we love Bamboo so much.

Bamboo is naturally organic because it thrives without pesticides or chemical treatments. It's also naturally sustainable as it doesn't need to be artificially watered, and because it is a type of grass, not a tree, it grows much faster than cotton to any other textiles.

Unlike cotton, bamboo doesn't require a huge amount of water to grow, which means it's a great environmentally-friendly choice. It also doesn't need to be replanted after it has been harvested, because of the vast roots network it's continuously sprouting new stems.

Unlike silk, which kills thousands of silkworms in its production, it is naturally Vegan and cruelty free. Plus, as bamboo fibres are more sustainable and stronger, they last longer than silk, which can quickly get old and fray.

Make sure that when you want to invest in bamboo bedding that it is 100% pure bamboo fibre and not bamboo fibre mixed with cotton. Although this might be a cheaper alternative, it won't give you the same benefits like 100% pure bamboo fabric.

As a skincare company, we know how important sleep is not only for your skin but for your health too. Therefore, we have introduced a bamboo pillowcase into our product range for a limited time! Shop here.
